Mail Delivery on Meeting Street - Lancaster SC - 1970

The mail is delivered in the snow on West Meeting St. near the former Westgate Shopping Center (in background), across the street from Crown Cinema in Dec. of 1970.

Although there is no official motto for the post office, the phrase 'Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds' can be traced back to The Persian War. The Persians operated a system of mounted postal couriers.(Photo by Lee Studio/Image on File with Travis Bell Photography)
