The economic boom of the 1950s following WW2 was some of the largest growth the world had ever seen. Towns all across the country were expanding roads, building schools and creating new neighborhoods in a response to the new economy.
This classic photograph was created near the intersection of Meeting and French streets.

The new football practice facilities, softball field and the upper decks on the football stadium aren't even built yet. This classic photograph shows 42,800 fans taking in the Georgia game in Death Valley on Oct. 5, 1974.

The Hub is seen in Oct. of 1954 after getting a facelift and an addition in the back of the building.
Many teenagers flocked to this grill in the 1950s and 1960s for 35-cent cheeseburgers and 17-cent cokes.
It was located on U.S. 521 North in the Twin Pines area.

The Mt. Carmel A.M.E. Zion campgrounds are seen on Sept. 10, 1950. The camp meetings, which take place each year in September, are a time of worship, fellowship and eating.
The meetings began in 1866 and take place at Mt. Carmel Church near Heath Springs. It is part of the National Register of Historic Places .

Wow! Things sure do look different today on North Main St. compared to this 1955 photograph.
Here, a man looks over the city's road widening project as cars head south on Main. As a reference, today's First Presbyterian Church is located near the tall tower on the hill seen to the right of the white house.
The area of large trees seen down the hill at right is the property where today's First A.R.P. Church is located. In 1955, roads were being widened all over the country in response to the economic boom following WW2.

The Lancaster High School track is seen under construction on Sept. 9, 1993 as Rice School and the new high school are seen in the background.
It was the first day of school in the new building.
Rice School, which served as an elementary and high school for years would become an athletic building for football.
